A Maternity Milk Bath

I love a challenge, so when H contacted me to enquire about a very specific maternity photoshoot she had in mind I was intrigued!!! The shoot was to be located at her home, AND in her bath, with the addition of milk and flowers….

The initial challenge was the lighting, the bathroom had low ceilings, green tiles and no natural light… I knew I would need to utilise artificial lights somehow but direct light might make too much reflection on the water so I set my Godox AD600 pro up in the bathroom pointed to the ceiling to bounce the flash off on to the bath, and I also used my AD200 with an 80cm softbox to help light the skin. Below is the bathroom I had to work with:

After taking the photos I had the problem of editing the surrounds out, for the close up photos, I was able to crop.

BUT for the full bath tub I had to be more creative, I used the ‘content aware move tool’ to extend the bath tub across the entire image and remove the taps and hardware, then with the mixer brush I blended the bathtub into the image, resulting with the image below.

If I had more time I would have tried to extend the actual milk and flowers instead of the bathtub, but that requires more patience and photoshop skills, I might still come back to this and try it, but I am happy with how this image turned out.
Per chance, I noticed an amazing window in H’s house too, so whilst I had the camera out I snapped a few silhouette shots for her too, they were far easier to compose and edit 😉

P.S. if you are interested in doing your own milk bath, we filled the bath with warm water and just added one tub of Marvel Original milk powder. The flowers were cut with approx an inch and a half of the stem left and just placed in the water after the model got in.
